HSPT Prep Tutoring (virtual)

Do you have a rising 8th grader applying for admission next year to a Maryland or DC Catholic high school?

Sign up for virtual one-on-one or small group tutoring in one-hour Zoom sessions to learn important strategies for taking this standardized test, such as time management and question decoding. Students will get a thorough review of the three language arts sections of the test, along with strengthening of skills in vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and capitalization. Sessions will be tailored to the skill level of each individual student based upon a diagnostic quiz.

About the Summer Prep Course (virtual)

Students will systematically work through the three language arts sections of the HSPT using the Kaplan Seventh Edition (2016) HSPT Prep Book (student to provide his/her own copy prior to first Zoom session). Students will complete the three LA sections of Practice Test 1 from the Kaplan book during the course. Students will also participate in review activities via Google Classroom and Quizlet.

Prep course includes review of a curated PowerPoint developed over thirteen years of guiding 8th graders through HSPT Prep, sharing proven test-taking strategies, vocabulary and grammar review, and decoding of reading comprehension questions. No refunds. Make-up materials may be accessed via Google Classroom. (No math support is offered in this course, but a tutor for the HSPT prep course on the math sections can be recommended upon request.)

About the Instructor:

Mrs. Michelle Ardillo taught middle school English and literature in ADW Catholic schools for thirteen years and is MSDE certified in English for grades 7-12. For over ten years, Mrs. Ardillo proctored the HSPT for her 8th-grade homeroom students, giving her ample experience in the scoring, timing, and format of all five sections of the HSPT. Mrs. Ardillo and her family are parishioners at the Shrine of St. Jude Parish in Rockville, MD. Her daughters attended St. Jude Catholic School, the Academy of the Holy Cross (Catholic high school), and universities located in Pittsburgh.
